Opening an encrypted file in an external app¶
There are several ways to open a file from an encrypted container in another Android app:
-
Open the file from EDS NG. Open the container, tap the file in EDS file manager, and choose an external application in the Open with dialog. Modified files are saved back to the container automatically. If the external app cannot open the file, change Temporary files mode from Memory to Storage in settings.
-
Make the storage visible to external apps. Open the container settings and enable Visibility for external applications. After that, Android apps compatible with the Storage Access Framework, such as the standard Android file manager or
Total Commander, can access the opened container. -
Mount the container (requires root access). If the device has root access, open the container settings and enable Mount on open. After the container is opened, its files become available under
/sdcard/edsor under the custom mount directory. For details, see Description of Storage Mounting. -
Decrypt selected files to a temporary folder. Configure Temporary files directory in settings. In EDS file manager, select the files or folder, tap Decrypt to temporary folder in the bottom menu, and then open the files from that temporary folder in the external app. Modified files are saved back to the container automatically, and decrypted temporary files are erased when the container is closed.
