What is Application Data Isolation

Application data isolation is a mechanism that allows moving and storing user data from specific applications inside an encrypted storage. This provides additional confidentiality and information protection.

When application isolation operation is launched:

  • The system copies data from selected applications to a specially designated directory within this storage.
  • While the storage is open, applications continue to work with this data in normal mode.
  • When the storage is closed, the data becomes inaccessible: applications "lose" access to it, as if it were deleted, but in reality it is encrypted inside the storage.
  • This is especially useful for applications working with sensitive information, such as messengers, file managers, cloud clients, etc.

Important

  • Root access is required for isolation to work.
  • Only data from selected directories is isolated (e.g., from standard application folders and manually specified ones).
  • It is recommended to use with caution: incorrect use can lead to unstable application operation if their data suddenly becomes inaccessible.
