Storage Mounting¶
What is Storage Mounting¶
Storage mounting is the process of connecting the contents of an encrypted container to the device's file system so that it appears as a regular folder and is accessible to other applications or system processes.
After mounting:
- Files can be viewed, copied, moved, and edited as in a regular directory.
- Content becomes accessible to other applications (depending on permission and visibility settings).
- Some system services (e.g., media scanner) will be able to detect and use these files.
⚠️ Root access is required for mounting. For more details, see the section Description of Root Access
Mounting is convenient if you want to use files from the container directly in third-party applications, for example:
- opening photos in the gallery;
- playing music or video;
- synchronizing documents with a cloud service.
However, it's important to remember: after mounting, the storage contents become potentially vulnerable if other applications gain access to them. Use mounting consciously and only when necessary.
Automatic Storage Mounting¶
When the mount on open function is enabled, the encrypted storage is automatically connected to the device's file system immediately after it is opened.
To use automatic mounting, you need to:
- Grant the application root access.
- Set the path where the storage contents will be mounted, or leave the default value.
- Ensure that the selected path is accessible and doesn't conflict with system paths.
